Fylde Borough Council have already announced the results of the next General Election in their area

You heard it here first

Fylde Borough Council have announced on their website that the next MP for Fylde will be Mark Menzies, a 37 year old from Leeds who works in marketing for Morrisons.

But don't take my word for it, have a look at the link where the council says

"In the next general election the Rt. Hon Michael Jack MP will be retiring. The following is a press release about the new Fylde MP."

My mate Liam who is cutting his teeth in this particular election has always known he was a rank outsider, but you would think the organisation wherein sits the Returning Officer (I assume), might try to be a little less cocksure.

Still, when they are prepared to go on to say "Fylde has been represented by a Conservative MP for more than 60 years." I guess the game is pretty much up really. Perhaps they shoudl save the tax-payers from unnecessary expense and the bother of voting and just declare Fylde Tory for the next 60 years too?

Ironically they say here that "The local Council does not endorse any political group".

I know I am making light of this, but actually, it is pretty poor, wouldn't you say?
So on further reflection I have made an official complaint with my LP regional hat on.

Well Tories always did believe they had a god given right to rule, but in recent years they have tried to be a bit more circumspect about it.

That's part of this country's problem - too many rotten boroughs that will vote for a donkey if it wears the correct rosette. Meanwhile parties chase the 600,000 swing Daily Mail readers who will vote for the party who talks toughest on crime and asylum seekers and keep their income tax down.

Is it any wonder so few bother voting these days?

No you are right to complain. After all until everyone is validly nominated its not even certain that he will be the candidate!

The offending press release has been removed, I shall now look out for the apology and explanation and load it up here when I receive it.
Thanks

Dear Ms Baldock

Thank you for your recent e-mail to listening@fylde.gov.uk regarding the web page information on the Fylde MP.

Having looked at the page I am in agreement with the view expressed in your e-mail in that the second half of the text on the page should not have been reproduced on the Council’s website. The material has now been removed and I would like to extend an apology for this oversight.

The text that was removed is part of a press release from several months ago and I will be reviewing, with my communications staff, the procedures and protocols we have in place for the filtering and posting of such information.

Yours sincerely,

Phillip Woodward

Chief Executive

Fylde Borough Council
