Labour conference comes to Liverpool 2011

What terrific news, Labour conference is coming to Liverpool in 2011

I was on the NEC back in 2005 when we wanted to arrange it for 2008 but the city could not guarantee that the arena would be ready in time, so we have had to wait.

But it is going to be marvellous, to be able to show the city off to our LP members and friends from across the country. I know they are going to be massively impressed and will want to come back again, individually and as a party. And what a great opportunity this is going to be for Liverpool Labour's profile too.

I could not be more pleased.

I have just seen Warren Bradley (Libdem Leader of Liverpool City Council)'s comments on this.

On the BBC website it says

Warren Bradley, the Liberal Democrat leader of Liverpool City Council, said Labour's visit was "really exciting news".

"The billions of pounds invested into making the city an attractive, vibrant and welcoming destination has been a major factor in securing one of the country's biggest conferences," he said.

"Not only do you need the excellent facilities the Arena and Convention Centre Liverpool offers, but you also have to have a large number of high quality hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues for the thousands of delegates, visitors and media.

"This single event will be worth millions for businesses throughout the city."

I bet he had a sour face when he gave that comment.
